It's 1913, and Malka Treynovsky and
her family are heading off to America,

poverty and crowded tenements, and
Malka is abandoned on the street.
Then she meets an Italian ices ped-
dler who takes her in. As an adult,
she meets a handsome radical named
Albert who takes her across the
country in an ice-cream truck. Malka
soon becomes Lillian, "the Ice Cream

Hesh Kestin: The Lie
Edward Al-Masri is an advocate for
Palestinian independence; Dahlia Barr
is an Israeli human-rights lawyer.
Israel's secret service asks Dahlia
to serve as arbiter on when to use the
harshest interrogation methods on
prisoners, and she decides to accept
the job. Perhaps she can change the
system, after all.
But then she discovers that one
prisoner to be interrogated is Edward
Al-Masri, an acquaintance of hers.
And then there's this bit of news that
may change everything: Hezbollah has
just kidnapped her 20-year-old son, a
soldier with the IDF.

RELIGION/SPIRTUA

7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9 (OP)
Rabbi Schneur Polter: God Is Great:
How Hitchens and His Ilk Distort God
and Religion
The poster child for atheism (and the
son of a Jewish mother), the late journal-
ist Christopher Hitchens believed that
the concept of God destroyed human
freedom.
Rabbi Schneur Polter knows other-
wise, and in his new book, he offers
wisdom to all those who ever wondered,
"Where is God, and what does He want
from me?"
God Is Great seeks to educate, restore
faith and prepare anyone to handle
doubts and fear about religion.

gregation, but from
early on she felt a
"deep longing for
something more:'
Her quest turned
into quite an adven-
ture, from life as a
hippie to dreams of
college to Chasidic
mother and rabbi's
wife.
Painting Zaidy's
Dream is filled with
humor, honesty and
warmth as the author
tells the story of the joys and struggles
that come with an extraordinary life
change (don't miss Karp's account of her
mother's Humanistic-Chasidic funeral!).

Directed by Mary Bremer

Filled with youthful hope, romanticism, and laughter, Enter Laughing
is based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Carl Reiner about
an aspiring actor's attempt to extricate himself from overly protective
parents. With two too many girlfriends, our hero struggles to meet
many challenges in 1930s New York City where everything that
can go wrong, does. The 2008 off-Broadway revival earned
the praise, "Hilarious!" from the New York Times.
