Mr. Kaplan was the beloved hus-
band of the late Shirley 0. Kaplan;
the brother of the late Phillip Kaplan
and the late Charlie Kaplan.

at the Adat Shalom Cemetery in

GERT LEVY, 84, of West Bloomfield,
died May 15, 2012.
Mr. Levy was an Army veteran
of the Korean conflict and became
a material engineer with Chrysler
Automotive.
He is survived by his wife of 43
years, Evelyn Levy; sister, Doris
Simkin Waller; brother-in-law and
sister-in-law, Maxine and Leon Feig;
nieces and nephews, Andrea and Lee
Shaykhet, Susan and Larry Adler,
Roane Simkin, Donna Glassman,
Rick Simkin; great-nieces and great-
nephews; and other loving family
members and friends.

LIPSHAW, 82, of
San Rafael, Calif.,
formerly of
Huntington Woods,
longtime employee
of the San Francisco
Chronicle, passed
Lipshaw
away peacefully at
his home in San Rafael on Wednesday,
May 16, 2012.
Mr. Lipshaw left Michigan for the
San Francisco Bay Area with few pos-
sessions to his name to make a new
life for himself at the age of 40. It was
a difficult time; but he was a hard
worker with a sure sense of purpose, a
generous disposition and a refreshing
and vibrant way of seeing humor in
many different things, even life's bit-
ter lessons. These character traits he
must have absorbed from his father:
He loved him dearly and talked about
him often, and the two seemed so
alike. He succeeded in carving out a
comfortable place for himself in the
Bay Area and, by his own reckoning,
finally found himself in his life with
