There are many important issues in choosing, as this will be a long-
term relationship, and it should be enjoyable. The orthodontist should
Ask the Orthodontist be a specialist in orthodontics, which means he, or she, had been
selected to a graduate, program beyond dental school which requires
additional full time training from two to three years. He/She then
limits their practice to onl orthodontics and does not sractice other
facets of dentistry. .
Equally important is to ask your son or daughter whereethey feel
comfortable after the initial consultation. Did the orthodontist speak
to your child and see what issues are important to them? Did they
listen to you and your child, as well as explain what the procedures
involve? Kids are very perceptive and their input is vital, aspatients
are more compliant when they know, trust, and like their doctor.
Location, hours, reasonable and customary fees, comfortable financia
arrangements, and accessibility are important issues also. Ask
Dr. Nelson Hersh other members of the community including your son or daughter'
friends and even teachers. Is the reception room clean, friendly,
and
and comfortable? Did you have to wait at all, or too long for your
Dr. Marsha Beanie appointment? Was the orthodontist on schedule? Was he or she
friendly? Can you receive an information packet about the office,
orthodontist and treatment philosophy? These are all important
Licensed Specialists issues to consider.
for Children
Lastly and very important is select your orthodontist on who truly
& Adults
cares for your child. When you have interviewed your orthodontist
and feel comfortable that they enjoy relationships with kids and will
treat your son or daughter as if they were part of their own extended
West Bloomfield
family or friends, then you have found your family orthodontist.
