(Ukraine) in 1912,
one of five children,

mother and oldest sister, witnessed brutal
pogroms on a regular basis, managed an

in 1921 after eight years of separation.
Mimi, her father and three of her sib-

Canada.
Mimi was ambitious and valued edu-
cation from an early age. She graduated'
from Wayne University with a degree in
library science and did graduate work at
Columbia University Teachers College in
New York.
During the years that followed her
1934 marriage to Arthur Robbins, Mimi
taught in the Detroit Public Schools sys-
tem and went on to become a librarian in
a Southfield school. She was also known
as a political activist, book reviewer and
first-rate party giver.
Mimi's husband Arthur died in 1975,
and she had two subsequent marriages, to
Samuel Simmer and Morris Zelenko, both
of Detroit.
In 1997, Mimi moved to Orchard Cove,
a retirement community in Canton,
Mass., to be closer to her daughters,
Alice Isenberg of Boston and Martha
Friedricks-Glass of New York, and their
husbands, all of whom survive her.
Additionally, she is survived by two grand-
children and six great-grandchildren. Her
beloved third grandchild, Dr. Bess Emily
Jelin, died in 1995.
Mimi will be remembered by all who
have known her as a vivacious, warm and
irrepressible woman.
