MARSHALL
SILVERMAN,
83, of Southfield,
died July 2, 2011.
He was a
retired biology
and chemistry
Silverman
teacher, who
majored in biology at Wayne State
University. At the age of 17, he
joined the Navy to fight as a hos-
pital corpsman in World War II.
After retiring from the teaching
profession, Mr. Silverman worked
for the U.S. Immigration Service
at the Detroit/Canada entries,
airport, tunnel and bridge. Upon
retiring from this position, he got
a part-time position at Lord and
Taylor, which only confirmed his
love of fine men's clothing.
Mr. Silverman enjoyed downhill
skiing, was a world traveler and
volunteered three days a week
at the Detroit Institute of Arts;
he made many friends among
the volunteers, docents, security
guards, staff and public. He also
enjoyed attending the functions
at the DIA, particularly on Friday
nights.
He is survived by his daughters
and son-in-law, Susan Ferris of
Southfield, Beth Silverman of
Royal Oak, Naomi Silverman of
Royal Oak and her life partner,
Cheryl; grandchildren, Louis
David Ferris, Sophie Isabelle
Silverman and Ethan Joel
Silverman.
He was the loving brother of
the late Arthur Silverman.
Interment at Great Lakes
National Cemetery. Contributions
