Wedgle

DR. MARTIN
"DOC" WEDGLE
(Yonia Beryl), died
July 2, 2011, sur-
rounded by those
who loved him
most.
Dr. Wedgle was
an osteopathic

physician, formerly a family doctor
then an allergist. In the beginning
of his medical journey, he was a
family doctor treating a plethora
of illnesses, delivering 350 babies
and doing minor surgeries. He was
like the country doctor, even mak-
ing house calls to those who could
not get out due to illness or age. His
journey continued when he went
back to school by taking a fellow-
ship at Henry Ford Hospital under
the direction of Dr. Lawrence Sweet,
whom he referred to as his "chief".
When he became ill, his patients
were devastated and sent him cards,
letters, phone calls and also attended
his funeral.
Dr. Wedgle would break ground
for future osteopaths in allergy by
entering the fellowship as the first
osteopathic physician, not only there
but also on staff as an allergist at
William Beaumont Troy Hospital.
He had many hobbies such as
going to the racetrack, playing cards
and boating. His last boat showed
his love for allergy in its name,
Hayfever Sea Sun.
Dr. Wedgle was the proud son of
Harry Wedgle, a fruit peddler from
Poland, and Gussie (Wasserman), a
singer on stage in the Jewish theatre
from Russia.
He was the husband of Kathleen
Allessio Wedgle and the late Lorraine
Wedgle; dear father of Bruce, Craig,
Stacey Lynn (Howard) Engle and
Paige; dear stepfather of Lindsay
Allessio Tuzzolino (Nicholas),
Alexandra Allessio Brdak; grandchil-
dren, Shauna, Travis, Leah and Shayla
Wedgle; sister, Renee Lynn of Chicago
and the late Libby Mall; brother
through friendship of Dr. Jack Pearl
and Carol Pearl.
The family extends a heartfelt
thank you to Dr. Alan Silverman, his
cardiologist, and staff. "Doc" called
him a mentsh who always gave hope,
kindness, compassion and visited
him up to the time he passed. Dr.
Silverman called our "Doc" a tzadik,
a righteous human being.
Contributions may be made to
Congregation Shaarey Zedek, Keith
Anson Mall Scholarship Fund (Dr.
Wedgle's nephew), 27375 Bell Rd.,
Southfield, MI 48034; Michigan State
University, Osteopathic Scholars
Program, attn: Patricia Bradford ,
A310 East Fee Hall, East Lansing,
MI 48824, code: AR000132.
Arrangements by Ira Kaufman
Chapel.
