Job Interview
Do's and Don'ts
Jonathon Triest, 28,
Oak Park
Brent Triest, Huntington Woods
Warren Coville, Sarasota, Fla.
Together in family business, Warren,
Brent and Jonathan are partners in a
private equity firm, Ludlow Ventures
LLC, located in Southfield.
Upon returning to Detroit from Atlanta,
Jonathon tried to find a place for himself with
one of his family's pre-existing private equity
groups. However, it was soon realized that the
best way to get involved would be to start a new
company with a new approach. Jonathon said,
"Most venture capital firms have the attitude
that says, 'Sure, I'll invest in your company... but
I'll also take it over!' We have more of a Mid-
Western, nice Jewish-boy approach. If it's appro-
priate, we'd like YOU to run your company and
we'll be your back seat partners."
Ludlow Ventures is a boutique private equity
firm looking to back passionate, experienced
entrepreneurs and managers. With the economic
downturn here in Michigan, making it especially
hard to get a business loan from the bank, going
to a private equity firm is just one more option
for an entrepreneur to get funding.
Jonathon has been personally inspired by his
two senior partners, his father Brent Triest, and
great uncle Warren Coville. Jonathon said, "They
have been phenomenal and patient teachers; they
have made and continue to make learning about
this business fun."

LLC, visit them online at www.ludlowventures.

Jonathon graduated from the University of
Michigan in 2004. He lives with his wife Jessica
and their daughter Shayna Liora.

Your job interview begins long
before you walk in the door to the
company's office. The biggest
mistake in interviewing is not being
completely prepared. Allow
sufficient time to prepare and
practice for your interview. There is
no one way to prepare for an
interview as each job interview is
different, however, there are
individual strategies that will help
enhance each experience and stand
out to the job-seeker.
Here are some helpful do's and
dont's that everyone must know
when on the interview circuit:

misrepresent you. These topics are
bound to come up in every
interview, so practice and have
reasonable and honest answers
ready.
• What are your greatest
weaknesses?"
• Lack of leadership and/or related
experience
• Record of job-hopping
DO wear appropriate attire. Know
the culture of the office you are
interviewing at and dress
accordingly. Make a good
impression.
DO update your resume. Bring
several clean, error-free and up to
date copies with you. Having a
couple different versions of your
resume might be a good idea
— highlight fields more strongly
compatible for the company
applying for.
DON'T arrive late! Make sure
you know the exact location of
your interview and how to get
there. Allow yourself plenty of
extra driving time and try to arrive
10-15 minutes early. Confirm
your appointment 24-48 hours in
advance.
DON'T show your nerves. Listen
to the questions being asked of you
and take a if needed to regroup
before you answer. Stay calm and
relax as much as possible, remember
– you would not have landed the
interview if you were not qualified!
DO follow up. Send a thank-you
note to every person you met with.
E-mail is OK, except for formal
business correspondences, and
should be done within 24 hours.
Emphasize your qualifications,
appreciation for the interview and
why you are the best candidate.
DO research the company. Have
a strong knowledge base and be
prepared to answer questions. How
would you answer the questions,
"Why have you chosen to apply for
our company rather than our
competitor?"
