who had two children from a previous
marriage, Anna and Jack. He often said
he fell in love with her children first. Two
years after they married, they had their
third child, Ruth.
Mr. Palma had various jobs while work-
ing at GM Diesel for 30 years; his last job
was as an inspector; he retired in 1980.
Mr. Palma and his wife then retired
to Lauderdale Lakes, Fla. They enjoyed
24 years of active retirement with many
good friends, old and new
They moved to Portland, Ore., in 2004
to be closer to family. He loved travel,
long days spent at Kensington Beach with
family, weekly card games with a group
of old friends and later in life, discovered
Bingo. He was known for telling a good
story and funny jokes. He was a proud
and committed member of the UAW
Union and a member of Neveh Shalom
Congregation in Portland.
At 94 years old, Szymon was the core of
the family. He instilled in them the need
to persevere when faced with adversity
and most importantly, that family is the
most valuable gift in life.
He is survived by his daughters and
sons-in-law, Anna Warszawski Palma
Hyman and Arnie Hyman of Farmington
Hills; Ruth Palma and Robert Rogowski
of Corvallis, Ore.; daughter-in-law,
Claudia Warszawski of Dale City, Va.;
grandchildren, David (Kari) Warszawski
of Boston, Mass.; Noah (Sara) Warszawski
of Auburn, Maine, Adam and Lily of
Corvallis; four great-grand children;
nephew, Jonas Rotstein of Buenos Aires,
Argentina; companion, Shirley Herzberg
of Portland, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his wife,
Bella, and son, Jack.
A graveside service was conducted at
Ahavai Shalom Cemetery and he was
buried next to his wife of 50 years, Bella
Rosenberg Palma.

MILDRED H. PALMER, 93, of Southfield,
died Jan. 12, 2010.
She is survived by her son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Arthur and Marilyn Palmer
of White Lake; daughter and son-in-law,
Karen and David Knaub of Yarmouth
Port, Mass.; grandchildren, Kevin and
Lisa Palmer, Zackary (Heather) Knaub
and Andrea Knaub; great-granddaughter,
Quinn; sister, Shirley Palmer.
Mrs. Palmer was the beloved wife of the
late Vernon Palmer.
Interment at the Oakview Cemetery in
Royal Oak. Contributions may be made to

DR. HARVEY ROTH, 69, of Farmington
Hills, died Jan. 12, 2010.
He is survived by his beloved wife,
Sandra Roth; sons, Jason Roth of White
Lake, Joshua Roth (fiancée Erin Snyder)
of Brighton; brother-in-law, Harold
Cohen.
He was the dear son of the late
Gertrude and the late Harry Roth; brother
of the late Carol Cohen.
Interment the Clover Hill Park
Cemetery in Birmingham. Contributions

ABRAHAM "ALVIN" SOLOMON, 93,
formerly of Southfield of Delray Beach, Fla.
He was born and raised in Chicago. He was
a World War II veteran and fought in with
the American Division of the U.S. Army in
the South Pacific, where he earned a Purple
Heart and a Silver Star. He was an avid
sports fan and played softball into his late
70s and bowled until his late 80s.
Mr. Solomon was the beloved husband
of Nettie Solomon; dearest father of Dr.
Marshall (Suzanne Shawn) Solomon of
Farmington Hills and Janice (Dr. Arnold)
Tracht of West Bloomfield; stepfather of
Herbert (Paula) Diamond; grandfather
of Julie Tracht, Ryan (Deborah) Tracht,
Sari Tracht, Daniel Solomon and Michael
Solomon; great-grandfather of Emily,
Noah and Jessica Tracht; brother of Alice
Marcson (the late Frederick Marcson) of
Homewood, Ill.; many nieces and nephews.
