Weaving Joy
New grants translate into new dreams.
ewish Senior Life of Metropolitan
Detroit granted two more dreams
on Nov. 20. The recipients were
Sarah Cranis and Sarah Kreisman.
Cranis, 84, is a resident of Fleischman
Residence/ Blumberg Plaza in West
Bloomfield.
Elise Kantor, a DreamCatcher from Novi,
introduced herself to Cranis as a volunteer
for a Friendly Visitor program. As they
spent time together, it became obvious
Cranis missed seeing many of her friends.
Kantor planned a reunion with the help of
Cranis' son, Scott Cranis, and Idee Fox, co-
chair of DreamWeavers.
Sitting around a beautiful table at the
Franklin Village Tea Room were Sarah
Baskt, Marsha Blitz, Lorraine Keys, Shirley
Keys, Eleanor Moss and Diane Rosenthal.
Cranis thought Kantor was taking her
to lunch. Cranis walked in surprised to
see her friends and was so delighted. All
women donned Victorian-style hats and
enjoyed tea, finger sandwiches, scones and
miniature pastries.
The women laughed and shed tears of
joy as they spent time together. Cranis was
j
overjoyed anyone would go to this trouble
for her.
At the end of the lunch, Kantor present-
ed a picture frame to each of the women
with a picture she had taken earlier of
them with their hats on.
On the afternoon of Nov. 20, Fleischman
Residence/ Blumberg Plaza resident
Sarah Kreisman, 86, was granted her wish
of cooking in the Fleischman kitchen.
Kreisman was a cook at Borman Hall in
Detroit for 30 years. Since moving into
Fleischman Residence, she longed to
cook in the kitchen. Pearlena Bodzin, a
DreamCatcher from Southfield, had spent
time with Kreisman to see if there was a
dream that DreamWeavers could fulfill for
her.
Bodzin entered Kreisman and herself in
a kugel cookoff that Fleischman had in the
summer; they won third place. They both
enjoyed cooking together in the kitchen.
Kreisman still talked about cooking an
entire meal there.
Bodzin knew that would make
Kreisman very happy. With special per-
mission, the two women cooked an entire
Shabbat dinner in the
Fleischman Residence
kitchen on a Friday
afternoon. They worked
together, in harmony,
with Kreisman oversee-
ing everything.
Bodzin put the final
touches on the table,
adding her own candle-
sticks, challah cover,
kiddish cups and kip-
pot. When Kreisman
and her husband, Paul,
Sarah and Paul
walked into the library
in the Fleischman
Residence, sitting around the table were
the Kreismans' daughter, Adela, grand-
son Kevin, good friend Ana—Leanor
Fennandez, Bodzin's brother and sister-
in-law, Alan and Ellen Wilson, and Jill
Margolick, co-chair of DreamWeavers.
Kreisman was pleased to see everyone
and was delighted that everyone came just
for her. After lighting the Shabbat candles,
everyone enjoyed Kreisman.
