our high school athletes will
be honored at the Jewish
Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit in West
Bloomfield on Nov. 2 at the 25th annual
Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation
dinner. Jewish News High School
Athletes of the Year Eric Fishman, Eric
Glanz and Abby Cohen, along with
Bill Hertz Memorial Scholarship win-
ner Michelle Lapin are the high school
honorees.
Each 2009 graduate has an impres-
sive resume of athletic and academic
accomplishments.
Male Athlete
Of The Year
Eric Fishman
Name: Eric Fishman

College: Kalamazoo
Major: Undecided
High school sport: Basketball. Scored
more than 400 points as a senior and
900 points in his four-year career. JCC
Maccabi Games: Played basketball
four years.

chosen. It's nice to see that all my hard
work paid off."

Major: Pre-medicine
High school sports: Baseball and bas-
ketball. Batted .422 with team highs
of 38 hits, five home runs, 16 doubles,
30 RBI, 22 walks 69 total bases, .755
slugging percentage and .550 on-base
percentage as a senior.
Quote: "At first, I didn't think of
myself as a Jewish athlete. Then, when
I was 12 years old and went to my first
JCC Maccabi Games, I realized being
a Jewish athlete was of great impor-
tance to my community and I started to
embrace it. It gives me great pride to
not only call myself an athlete, but also
a Jewish athlete."
