WHERE DO YOU GO?
With a more comfortable work
environment than in traditional,
older operating rooms, SJMO's
new Surgical Pavilion is designed
to flow seamlessly, in a way that
makes sense to patients and
where safety is key. Surgeons
and staff "wish lists" were incor-
porated into the plans. LED cool
lights provide brilliant white light-
ing, save energy and produce
less heat — a real bonus for
surgical teams. Green technology
processes reduce waste, water
and energy usage. Each OR can
be heated or cooled to appro-
priate temperatures for various
procedures and are energy effi-
cient when not used. Rooms are
designed to support future devel-
opments in technology.
Added Weiner, "When the doc-
tors finished conducting their
very first operations here, they
came out smiling. They spoke
highly of their whole team's abil-
ity to perform operations with the
integrated technology and safety
features. Everyone could see what
was going on and anticipate any
needs."
Dr. David
Harold, chair-
man of the
Department of
Surgery, noted,
"SJMO is one of
the top hospi-
tals in the Trinity
Dr. Harold
Health System
and is recog-
nized nationwide. Now, with these
world-class operating rooms and
our surgeons, who are second to
none, we can improve our capa-
bilities even further, including as
an excellent teaching hospital for
training residents."
Because SJMO is part of a
large health system, that helped
facilitate the project's planning/
design phase. Its architects knew
what worked best in previous
endeavors and improved on these
with the newest technology.
Funding for the $60 million
project comes from the hospital's
operating revenue, long-term
financing arranged by Trinity
Health and $10 million in philan-
thropic support from the commu-
nity through the hospital's Touch
the Future Campaign.
