Young professionals support
Alzheimer's Association.

BY ROBIN SCHWARTZ I PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANGIE BAAN

They're fighting for a fixture free from a memory-robbing illness. Members
of SYNAPSE, the new young professionals group supporting the Greater
Michigan Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, hosted a Dec. 18 night out
at the MGM Grand Casino in Detroit.
More than 60 young adults (ages 25-40) gathered at the casino's Ignite
Lounge for an evening of cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and mingling. The $35-per-
person admission price also included a raffle ticket for various prizes.
"Alzheimer's is not just an older person's disease," said Alzheimer's
Association development director Marc Berke. "It affects family members of all
ages dealing with this horrible illness."
The group, formed in 2008, plans to hold various social events throughout
the year to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease. For more information,
contact Tara Beatty at tara.beatty@alz.org or (248) 351-0280.

Bill Yerke, 4th generation owner of Yerke Floors, demonstrates that
sanding with the "Atomic" system is a clean and classy act.

Yerke Floors is proud to be the first retailer in the area to offer this
advanced "truck mounted" dust containment system.
