I is called "Getting Fit Inside and
Out," a program developed by
Mary Beckerman (aka Chef Mary
B), a raw-food specialist, and Gail
Mondry, a master yoga instructor.
The program addresses the core of
human health — which is to cleanse
the body, mind and spirit. This cleans-
ing program is an ideal way to create
metabolic balance in our lives, includ-
ing the choices we make on the foods
we choose to eat, how we handle stress
and how we can implement changes to
clear addictions.
The program
provides guided
support and tech-
niques with natu-
ral foods, yoga,
breath work and
meditation.
We know that
it is important
to take vacations
Gail Mondry
from work to
relax, and it is
essential to take a break from food to
detox. Almost everyone needs to rest
his or her body from time to time.
Some of us need to cleanse more
frequently or work more continually
to rebalance our body. Cleansing or
detoxification is one part of the trilogy
of nutritional action — others being
toning and balancing.
Fasting has been around for cen-
turies and physicians and spiritual
teachers have advocated fasting for
spiritual and physical health. When
our stomachs remain empty, our bod-
ies go through an elimination cycle.
Afterwards, many people experience
greater clarity of purpose, vitality and
energy. An added benefit is weight
loss although this is not its primary
purpose. Cleansing is more important
as an overall lifestyle and dietary tran-
sition.
The "Getting Fit Inside and Out"
program that ran Oct. 26-29 was held
at the Equilibrium Pilates Studio
in Bloomfield Hills. Nancy Hodari,
education director and owner of
Equilibrium, participated.
"I want to break my addiction to
caffeine and sugar," said Hodari.
Betsy Appleman, another partici-
pant, said, "I'm at a point in my life
where I was willing to try a detox
cleansing, for purely health reasons

and curiosity. I am pleasantly sur-
prised that I am enjoying the juices."
For many, it is a chance to detox
their bodies and learn why it is an
essential and natural aspect of life.
Fresh organic juices are served at each
cleansing class; recipes are provided
for smoothies and drinks for juicing
at home.
When combined with yoga, medita-
tion and breathing tips, the program
offers an opportunity to feel better in a
very short time. Li
