ABRACADABRA

Any child who loves magic shows and wants to know the secrets behind them
will have the chance to learn and experience the art Monday, Aug. 18. Joel Tacey,
who gets bookings for festivals and parties, will perform with coins, cards and
special props and then teach his skills to youngsters age 9 and older at the Grosse
Pointe War Memorial, Grosse Pointe Farms. Magic will be the focus 1-3 p.m.
Juggling finds its place 3-4 p.m. During the first session, there will be silly music,
wacky stunts and off-the-wall comedy. Besides learning some of the basic tech-
niques, students will get props to take home. Those who stay to learn juggling
will get to try out a method based on 31/2 steps and will be given items used in the
training to help master the method. $20 magic; $10 juggling; $5 parent observa-
tion. (313) 881-7511.
