DENNIS PRAGER
THE CASE FOR JUDAISM
Nationally syndicated radio talk show host Dennis Prager — described in The Jewish
Week as "one of the three most interesting minds in American Jewish life"—offers
compelling arguments for Judaism, developed after years of speaking to people from
virtually every religion and culture. Prager is the author of The Nine Questions People Ask
About Judaism, Why The Jews? The Reason for Anti-Semitism and Happiness Is a Serious
Problem.

he new high school
initiative this fall for
Conservative Jewish teens
— "Conservateens" — will be
called ATID, Hebrew for "future
representing Amitat Tichon 1'Yaldei
Detroit (the Consolidated High
School for the Teens of Detroit).
The mission of ATID, which
will draw teens in grades eight-12
from the area's five Conservative
congregations, is to provide Jewish
education for post-b'nai mitzvah
teens in a stimulating environment
fostering an appreciation of lifelong
Jewish living and learning.
As part of an introduction to the
concept, area Conservateens will
participate in a dinner program
at 6 p.m. Monday, March 3, featur-
ing Rabbi Or N. Rose, an editor of
Righteous Indignation: A Jewish Call
for Justice. Rose will discuss the
history of tikkun olam (building a
better world) and then the teens
will perform social action proj-
ects together with residents from
Farmington Hills-based JARC.
The projects will benefit
Children's Hospital of Michigan,
Ronald McDonald House, Friends
of the Israel Defense Forces,
Fleischman Residence/West
Bloomfield and National Council of
Jewish Women's blanket project.
In the book, Righteous
Indignation, rabbis, scholars and
activists challenge the Jewish com-
munity to move beyond "mitzvah
days" and dedicate resources to
systemic change in the U.S., Israel
and worldwide. The editors write,
"Our tradition tells us that we can
change our ways and transform our
communities. We have the power to
repair the world if only we are will-
ing to do the work"
The Rose event leads up to the
launch in September of ATID. A
mega-event, featuring Israeli musi-
cian Michael HarPaz and his band,
dinner, iPod giveaways, prizes,
games and ATID registration, will
be held 6 p.m. April 7 at Hillel Day
School of Metropolitan Detroit in
Farmington Hills.

im ATID director: (248) 535-7090
