SYLVIA B. BRICKNER,

92, of St. Clair
Shores, died Sept. 9, 2007. She was a
member of Na'amat, Hadassah and
was a past president of a B'nai B'rith
chapter.
Mrs. Brickner is survived by her son
and daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda
Brickner of St. Clair Shores; grandchil-
dren, Robert and Michele Brickner,
Rachel Brickner; great-grandchildren,
Colin and Leah Brickner.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Jacob Brickner.
Interment at Beth El Memorial

BARBARA BRODSKY, 61, of West
Bloomfield, died Sept. 5, 2007.
She is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, Dr. Martin and Renee
Brodsky of South Carolina; daughters
and son-in-law, Audrey and Darren

Goldberg of Virginia, Nikki and Jason
Gartrell of Waterford; grandchildren,
Spencer and Jillian Goldberg, Sydney
Gartrell; brother and sister-in-law,

Bloomfield; mother-in-law, Bec
Brodsky; brother-in-law and sister-in-
law, Bernard and Sharon Brodsky.
Mrs. Brodsky was the beloved wife
of the late Sanford Brodsky; devoted
daughter of the late Kay and the late
Julius Kahn; loving sister of the late
Sharon Kahn; dear daughter-in-law of
the late Morris Brodsky.
Interment at Adat Shalom Memorial

SOL M. ELKIN,

of Ann Arbor, died
Sept. 9, 2007, at home. He was a prom-
inent labor arbitrator, educator, loving
husband, father and grandfather.
Born in 1920 in Detroit, Mr. Elkin
was educated in public schools and
earned a bachelor of arts and a doc-
tor of education from Wayne State
University.
He served four years in the Army
Air Force during World War II. From
1946 to 1968, he taught in the Detroit
public schools, becoming principal of
Southeastern High School. He left the
public schools to become professor of
education and chair of the Education
Department at Albion College, remain-
ing in that position until 1984.
He then made a midlife career
change into labor arbitration,
becoming a member of the National
Academy of Arbitrators and the
American Arbitration Association. He
and his wife of 47 years, the former
Judith Laikin, have lived in Ann Arbor
since 1979, where they affiliated with
Beth Israel Congregation.
Mr. Elkin is survived by his
wife, Judith; daughters and sons-
in-law, Alissa and Gerry Leonard,
