BARBARA BRODSKY, 61, of West Bloomfield, died Sept. 5, 2007. He was a prom- inent labor arbitrator, educator, loving husband, father and grandfather. Born in 1920 in Detroit, Mr. Elkin was educated in public schools and earned a bachelor of arts and a doc- tor of education from Wayne State University. He served four years in the Army Air Force during World War II. From 1946 to 1968, he taught in the Detroit public schools, becoming principal of Southeastern High School. He left the public schools to become professor of education and chair of the Education Department at Albion College, remain- ing in that position until 1984. He then made a midlife career change into labor arbitration, becoming a member of the National Academy of Arbitrators and the American Arbitration Association. He and his wife of 47 years, the former Judith Laikin, have lived in Ann Arbor since 1979, where they affiliated with Beth Israel Congregation.
