lorence "Jo" Saltzman, 85,
died April 23, 2007.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa.,
in 1922, Mrs. Saltzman grew up in
Chatham, N.Y. She received a bach-
elor of arts in English
at Syracuse University.
She then served as a
copy editor for North
American Newspaper
Alliance, a National
news syndicate based
in New York, N.Y., and
also edited the Emily
Post Book of Etiquette.
She worked as a copy
editor, theater reviewer Saltzman
and writer with numer-
ous national columnists including
Billy Rose, a New York producer and
promoter.
A lifetime member of the League
of Women Voters, Mrs. Saltzman
chaired multiple educational com-
mittees. She was also a lifetime
member of American Association
of University Women and was an
educational activist with Oak Park,
Oakland County Intermediate
Schools and Birmingham Schools.
She served on the Birmingham
Board of Education, becoming presi-
dent in her final year.
Twice Selected as Michigan
Republican candidate for State
Board of Education, Mrs. Saltzman
served as a local political orga-
nizer and was active in Southfield
Township, Oakland County and
Michigan Republican Politics,
including years as a precinct and

state delegate. As a trustee at
Saginaw Valley State University for
12 years, she served as chairman
of the board and on the Michigan
Association of Governing Boards.
Mrs. Saltzman
received an hon-
orary Ph.D. from
Saginaw Valley State
University in 1991.
In addition, she
was elected Franklin
Village councilwoman
for five terms, was
a lifetime member
of the Birmingham
Bloomfield Arts
Council, served on the
board of directors and founded the
BBAC Art Bus Tour.
Mrs. Saltzman is survived by her
daughters and a son-in-law, Arnie R.
Saltzman of Franklin, Sarah "Sally"
Saltzman and Scott Loney of West
Bloomfield; grandchildren, Joshua
and Joanna Loney; sister and
brother-in-law, Rita and Harry Aid
of Washington, D.C.
She was the beloved wife of the
late Arthur W. Saltzman.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be
made to the Florence "Jo" Saltzman

Saginaw Valley State University,

DR. MILTON
LIPSON, 86, died
April 28, 2007.
He was born
on July 5, 1920, in
Detroit. Dr. Lipson
attended Wayne
College, now Wayne
State University, for
two years, transferred to Michigan
State College of Agriculture and
Applied Science, now Michigan State
University, where he majored in genet-
ics, and then entered the College of
Veterinary Medicine, receiving a doctor
of veterinary medicine degree in 1944.
He had a long and varied career in
veterinary medicine, which included
large animal practice in Homer, La.,

meat inspection at both the federal
and county levels in Michigan and
volunteer work on several of Arizona's
Indian reservations.
Dr. Lipson was the owner of the
Harvey Animal Hospital in Detroit,
where he had a small and exotic ani-
mal practice for more than 35 years.
After moving to Tucson in 1980, he
took courses at the University of
Arizona and entered the College of
Agriculture, where he was awarded a
master of science degree in wildlife
and fisheries science in 1985.
He served as an adjunct professor
in wildlife sciences in the School of
Natural Resources at the University of
Arizona, where he designed a course
for wildlife students on identifying
