they like to exercise? What have their
failures been? A lot of people leave
their trainer in sole charge. A trainer's
job is to motivate and inspire some-
body toward fitness and, I believe, give
them their wings."
In her 19 years in fitness, Stone has
taught everything from step classes to
spinning, water aerobics and senior
fitness classes. She served as the group
fitness coordinator for the Jewish
Community Center in West Bloomfield
for six years and supervised the JCC's
personal training staff. Currently, she
trains clients at Franklin Athletic Club
in Southfield in addition to the Sports
Club. She also has her own in-home
personal training business.
But, it's not all business. Fitness has
also played a very personal role in
Stone's life. She met her husband, Tom,
at the gym 15 years ago while they
were both working out at the former
One on One in West Bloomfield (now
the site of the Sports Club.) The couple
is busy raising two sons, Scott, 10,
and Alex, 13. As her family has grown,
Stone says her fitness priorities have
changed.
"I've come a long way. I've evolved
with the industry," Stone said. "My
interest and focus is currently on the
aging population. There's so much
more to fitness than a six-pack [stom-
ach] and a hard body. Now, I'm doing
more comfortable, gentle program-
ming."
