bar mitzvah as he

Torah Saturday,
May 28, at
Temple Shir
Shalom. He is the
son of Doug and
Ilene Beers of
Orchard Lake and
the loving grand-
son of Wanda
Beers of Traverse City. He is also the
grandson of the late Robert and
Helen Dorn and the late Vernon
Beers.
Andrew is a seventh-grader at
Abbott Middle School in West
Bloomfield. He attends Madrichim all
year, volunteers in the temple office
and tutors Hebrew to the younger
children attending Sunday school.

Benjamin Jay Smargon Cole, son of
Vivian and Dr.
Gerald Cole, will
celebrate his bar
mitzvah Saturday,
May 28, at
Temple Beth El.
He is the grand-
son of the late
Sophie and late
Jack Cohen and
the late Rosie and
the late Dr. Benjamin Smargon.
A participant in the Northwestern
University Gifted and Talented pro-
gram, Ben is an avid reader. He
attended Hillel Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit for three years
and is now a seventh-grade student at
Birmingham Covington School. His
mitzvah projects include volunteering
at the Baldwin Soup Kitchen and Yad
Ezra, and assisting the temple's reli-
gious school every Sunday morning.

Ben has qualified for the U.S.
Nationals twice and has won many
medals fencing (foil).

Dayna Rose Elconion (Raizel Dofna)
will be called to the Torah as a bat
mitzvah Friday, May 27, at Temple
Shir Shalom. Celebrating with her
with be her par-
ents, Joel and Lisa
Elconin, and sister
Emily. Joining in
the festive event
will be her proud
grandparents
David and Vicky
Buckfire of
Farmington Hills
and Richard and
Norma Elconin of Michigan.
Dayna is an honor student at
Berkshire Middle School in Beverly
Hills. For her mitzvah project, she
organized a Kids for Kids chapter,
which collected 800 pair of socks for
the Sarah Fisher Home. She also par-
ticipated in a program for disabled
teens.

Jesse Harrison Frank was called to the
Torah as a bar mitzvah on Saturday,
May 14, at Temple
Emanu-El. He is
the son of Steven
and Joan Frank and
the brother of Zoe.

Dresher, Pa., Judy
Solomon of
Birmingham and
Robert Solomon of Topanga Canyon,
Calif.
A seventh-grade honor student at
Birmingham's Derby Middle School,
Jesse volunteered during the MS 150
Bike Tour, helped fit and distribute
bikes to underprivileged kids through
Variety Club's Bike For Kids program
and works with special needs students
at Derby Middle School. He also
raised money for Michigan Humane
Society as part of his mitzvah projects.
