Benjamin Jay Smargon Cole, son of Vivian and Dr. Gerald Cole, will celebrate his bar mitzvah Saturday, May 28, at Temple Beth El. A participant in the Northwestern University Gifted and Talented pro- gram, Ben is an avid reader. His mitzvah projects include volunteering at the Baldwin Soup Kitchen and Yad Ezra, and assisting the temple's reli- gious school every Sunday morning. Dayna is an honor student at Berkshire Middle School in Beverly Hills. For her mitzvah project, she organized a Kids for Kids chapter, which collected 800 pair of socks for the Sarah Fisher Home. She also par- ticipated in a program for disabled teens. Jesse Harrison Frank was called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Saturday, May 14, at Temple Emanu-El. He is the son of Steven and Joan Frank and the brother of Zoe. A seventh-grade honor student at Birmingham's Derby Middle School, Jesse volunteered during the MS 150 Bike Tour, helped fit and distribute bikes to underprivileged kids through Variety Club's Bike For Kids program and works with special needs students at Derby Middle School.
