any couples take a trip to Europe, Israel
or Hawaii to celebrate a special wedding
anniversary.
But it was a different destination for Larry and
Roberta (Bobbi) Warsh who marked their 50th
anniversary in mid-January. Larry, 74, and Bobbi,
68, were treated to a surprise "nostalgic mystery
trip" stretching over three days, thanks to their
three sons.
They arranged for a motorcoach to transport the
entire extended family to the home in northeast
Livonia, where the family lived from 1958 to
1977.
The trip included a stop at the father and sons'
former hangout, a Coney Island restaurant at near-
by Livonia Mall, as well as the elementary and
high school the sons attended. (The junior high
has been demolished.)
There were bocce ball games at an Auburn Hills
court, dinner at a Birmingham restaurant, a movie
and an overnight stay at the Townsend Hotel.
The couple admitted it was a great feeling going
back to the old neighborhood. Larry said the

The anniversary celebrations continued Monday
morning with a brunch at the West Bloomfield
home of son Glenn. Served were many of the
kosher products that Larry handled in his whole-
sale food distribution business.
Larry and Bobbi's first date was in 1953, after
considerable nudging by Lillian Fenton, Bobbi's
sister, and Harriet Warsh, Larry's aunt.
Bobbie (Sofferin) admitted that she picked a
mid-week evening at the Royal Theater in north-
west Detroit for the first date because "I didn't
want to waste a weekend" if it didn't work out.
But the couple clicked and were married Jan. 16,
1955.
Both are graduates of Detroit Central High
School. Larry owned the Raskin wholesale kosher
food company for 44 years.. He sold the business
in 1992 and now is a food broker, dealing in
kosher products.
Bobbi is an independent travel consultant.
Besides Glenn, other family members taking
part in the anniversary weekend were sons Daniel
and Michael, both of Highland Park, Ill.; daugh-
ters-in-law Janet, Debbie and Shari; and grandchil-
dren Matt, Brad, Charlie, Molli, Jack, Joey, Alissa
and Zach.
