was an avid tennis player even into
his 84th year. Dr. Gilles was an
optometrist for 49 years, mainly in
the Detroit area. Soon after receiving
his optometry degree, he proposed to
his future wife, and brought her to
Michigan, where they married and
lived for the next 49 years.
Dr. Gilles is survived by his wife of
52 years, Lillian; children, Susan
Gilles of Beverly Hills, Herbert
Gilles of Dallas, Texas, and Andrea
and Walter Briggs of Beverly Hills;
grandchildren, Walter Briggs,
Jacqueline Gilles, Aaron Briggs and
William Briggs.

MARCIA (SEGALL) GOLDBERG,
60, former Detroiter of Los Angeles,
died Feb. 27, 2005. She attended
Mumford High School and Wayne
State University before completing a
master's degree in library sciences at
Hebrew University. She taught at sev-
eral Detroit area Hebrew schools
including Beth Abraham, Akiva
Hebrew Day School, and United
Hebrew Schools.
Mrs. Goldberg is survived by her
sons and daughters-in-law, Avraham
and Nechama Goldberg of New York,
Aryeh and Judy Goldberg of Los
Angeles; grandsons, Eitan and Noam;
parents, Sol and Sylvia Segall, former-
ly of Detroit of San Jose, Calif.;
brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and
Nikki Segall of Los Gatos, Calif.,
Neil and Laurie Segall of Denver,
Colo., Steve and Sarah Segall of
Denver, Ronald and Joan Segall of
Farmington Hills.

EDWARD G. GOLDSTONE, 93, of
Huntington Woods, died March 7,
2005. An engineer, Mr. Goldstone
had over 40 patents, including adhe-
sive backed carpet tiles and many in
the automotive industry.
During World War II, he was a
radio mechanic and worked on B-
