Celebrating a Milestone

Congregation Chaye Olam, metro Detroit's
newest progressive congregation, was formed
just two years ago under the leadership of
Cantor Stephen Dubov. With a commitment
to being "a house of prayer for all people",
Congregation Chaye Olam welcomes those in
the community who had not yet found a mean-
ingful spiritual home.

The Congregation, located on the Southeast
corner of Maple and Inkster, welcomes unaffil-
iated Jews is a key component of Chaye Olam's
spiritual identity. Whether you are married,
single, or in a committed relationship - with or
without children — Chaye Olam welcomes you.
A kosher kitchen is maintained.

As part of its community outreach, Chaye
Olam makes High Holiday seats affordable and
available. They offer various options for attend-
ing the services. Several services are open to the
community at no charge. Tickets purchased
will reduce the first year membership dues by
the cost of the High Holy Day tickets.Call

Unique Religious School
Learning through the arts
This year - Theater is the focus

Detroit-area premiere screening
of the acclaimed film

"Hiding and Seeking - Faith and
Tolerance after the Holocaust"

It's been called "the Julliard of congregational
religious schools" because of its strong empha-
sis .on the cultural and performing arts. Under
the direction of Christine Dubov, the Chaye
Olam Religious School curriculum is organized
each year around a different, unifying theme in
which the various arts become the key to teach-
ing Judaism . Last year their theme was "Dance
of Creation". The children worked all year on a
magnificent mural depicting this theme, men-
tored by the renowned Detroit-based artist,
Pablo Davis. The finished work was dedicated
at a spectacular Shabbat service of dance,
music, and song, in June 2004. And is on dis-
play in our Social Hall.

This New Year 5765 / 2004-05, our Religious
School's curriculum theme will be the great
biblical saga of The Joseph Story. Through
Bible study, midrash, world literature, song,
dance, and painting, our students and their par-
ents will explore this subject in depth, culmi-
nating in a May 2005 production of "Joseph
and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat."
This will involve creating costumes, stagecraft,
set design and construction, dance, a chorus,
and much more.

"Judaism through the Arts" is a philosophy
unique to Chaye Olam among the various
Jewish houses of worship throughout metro
Detroit. Registration accepted now, for the
Chaye Olam Religious School's upcoming New
Year of learning. For more information, leave a
message for Christine Dubov at the shul office,
248.851.7485, or e-mail chazzanl@aol.com
