Congregation Chaye Olam A Selichot program like none other... Saturday, Sept. 11 - 7:30 pm Unique Religious School Learning through the arts This year - Theater is the focus Detroit-area premiere screening of the acclaimed film "Hiding and Seeking - Faith and Tolerance after the Holocaust" It's been called "the Julliard of congregational religious schools" because of its strong empha- sis .on the cultural and performing arts. Under the direction of Christine Dubov, the Chaye Olam Religious School curriculum is organized each year around a different, unifying theme in which the various arts become the key to teach- ing Judaism . Last year their theme was "Dance of Creation". The children worked all year on a magnificent mural depicting this theme, men- tored by the renowned Detroit-based artist, Pablo Davis. The finished work was dedicated at a spectacular Shabbat service of dance, music, and song, in June 2004. And is on dis- play in our Social Hall. This New Year 5765 / 2004-05, our Religious School's curriculum theme will be the great biblical saga of The Joseph Story. Through Bible study, midrash, world literature, song, dance, and painting, our students and their par- ents will explore this subject in depth, culmi- nating in a May 2005 production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat." This will involve creating costumes, stagecraft, set design and construction, dance, a chorus, and much more. "Judaism through the Arts" is a philosophy unique to Chaye Olam among the various Jewish houses of worship throughout metro Detroit. Registration accepted now, for the Chaye Olam Religious School's upcoming New Year of learning.
