Q: When my father died, my mother
received $225 from Social Security.
We didn't receive it upon her death.
Why not?

A:

A lump sum death benefit of
$225 is available upon the death of
a wage earner with a surviving spouse
or a dependent child. Hence, in this
case, there is no benefit due.

If you have Social Security questions,
