NORMAN "ED" HENDRY, 66, of
Berkley, died May 30.
He is survived by his beloved wife,
Molly Forward; sons, Larry Hendry of

daughter and son-in-law, Maggie and
James Speelman of Reno, Nev.; sisters

OSCAR HERTZ, 83, of West
Bloomfield and Scottsdale, Ariz., died
June 1. He was a graduate of Northern
High School in Detroit and of Wayne
State University, where he studied
accounting.
Mr. Hertz was the owner of Plymouth
Furniture Company in Detroit and
Plymouth for many years and a member
of the National Association of Retail
Furniture Dealers. Long active in Jewish
community affairs, he was a member of
the Jewish Community Council board
for 16 years, the Jewish Welfare
Federation and the National Jewish
Community Relations Advisory
Council. He was also a member of the
board of Plymouth Child and Family
Services. He was also an avid tennis
player and traveler.
He is survived by his beloved wife of
60 years, Beatrice; daughters and sons-
in-law, Judie and Jerry Lax of Ann
Arbor, Karen and Bill Winshall of West
Bloomfield; sisters, Ida Snider of
Southfield, Lillian Jaffe of Southfield;
grandchildren, Jonathan (Jennifer
Benjamin) Lax, Andrew Lax, Brian
Winshall and Dana Winshall; adopted
grandchildren.
Interment at the Temple Israel
Gardens of Beth El Cemetery.

ETHEL KIRSCHMAN, 95, former
Detroiter of Baltimore, died June 1.
She was a 1924 graduate of Northern
High School and a 1928 graduate of the
University of Wisconsin. She returned to
Detroit and began working during the
1930s in the Wayne County clerk's
office, where she got to know some of
the local politicians. When they asked
her to serve as a delegate to the
Democratic county convention in 1936,
she agreed. She won her first, and last,
electoral victory.
Mrs. Kirschman was an avid bird
watcher and gardener.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary
Jo Kirschman of Baltimore; sister, Ruth
Kositchek of East Lansing; brother,
Bernard Rubiner of Tucson, Ariz.;
nephews, Arthur James Rubiner of West
Bloomfield and Jerome Rubiner of
Highland Park, Ill.; grandson; grand-
daughter; long-time caregiver and friend,
Linda Rodgers.

DAVID KLAR, 77, of West Bloomfield,
died June 1. He was a life insurance
agent for American Life Insurance
Company. He was also a member of
Congregation Beth Shalom, a member-
of B'nai B'rith Pinsker Society and the
Jewish War Veterans.
Mr. Klar is survived by his wife, Helen
Klar, sons, Nick Klar of California, Paul
Klar of California; daughters and sons-

in-law, Michelle and Jeff Rosen of
Farmington Hills, Lisa and Barry
Roffman of West Bloomfield, Leslie
Miller of Bloomfield Hills; grandchil-
dren, Mearyl, Harrison, Gabriel, Leah,

JEWEL BAAR KRETCHMER, 91, of
Sarasota, Fla., died June 2. She was a
buyer for a women's department store.
She was a founding member of Temple
Emanu-El, a past president of its sister-
hood, a member of the National
Council of Jewish Women a member of
Brandeis and Hadassah; and she worked
with Meals On Wheels.
Mrs. Kretchmer is survived by her
sons and daughter-in-law, Arthur and
Claire Kretchmer of Huntington
Woods, Robert Kretchmer of Scottsdale;
grandchildren, Linda and Barry Tikey,
Geoffrey Kretchmer and Jody Lipton;
great-grandchildren, Ryan and Blaine
Tikey, Noah and Emma Kretchmer;
brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Ferdie
and Evelyn Baar of New York, Stanley
and Anita Baar of Texas. She was the
adored wife of the late Harry
Kretchmer; dear sister of the late Julius
Baar.

MILDRED LANDMAN, 85, of
Indianapolis, Ind., died May 30.
She is survived by her sons and
daughter-in-law, Jerome and Connie
Landman of Indianapolis, Stephen
Landman of Louisville, Ky.; sister,
Henrietta Frank of Livingston, NJ.;
grandchildren, Anna and Johnson Land,
Hannah Davenport, Miriam Landman,
