BEATRICE BANKS BELFER, 90, of

Farmington Hills, died May 31. She was
a saleswoman for Pupko's Dry Goods,
Liinens and Bedspreads,
a east president and life
member of Pisgah
Lodge of B'nai B'rith.
Mrs. Belfer is sur-
vived by her husband,
Alfred Belfer; daughters
Beatrice Belfer
and sons-in-law, Myra
and Louis Sonshine of
Florida, Eleanor and Morris Garfinkel;
son and daughter-in-law, Richard and
Susan Banks of North Carolina; grand-
children, Jan Sonshine, Glenn Sonshine,
Lisa Sonshine, Tracey Sonshine, Jodi and
Robert Weinfeld, Michael and Stacey
Garfinkel, Lynn Banks, Jeffrey and
Natalie; 11 great-grandchildren; sister,
Dorothy Droz Mills; brothers, Herman
Cohen( and Aaron Cohen. She was the
beloved wife of the late William Banks.
Interment at Clover Hill Park

SHEILA ROSE BERMAN, 54, former

Detroiter of Washington, D.C., died
May 15. She earned a degree in English
literature from Smith College and a law
degree from the National Law Center of
George Washington University
Ms. Berman practiced labor relations
and enforced civil rights statutes for sev-
eral years with the U.S. Department of
Labor, Office of the Solicitor. For the
next five years, she was the first full-time
director of the Washington Area Lawyers
for the Arts, a non-profit legal aid organi-
zation for artists and arts groups. Then
she was managing director of the interna-
tional screen print workshop. Most
recently, Ms. Berman was executive
director of the Jenny Waelder Hall
Center for children.
Ms. Berman is survived by her daugh-
ter, Zoe; mother, Jule Berman; brother,
Daniel Berman of Portland, Ore.; niece
Julia Berman. She was the daughter of
the late Dr. Robert Berman.
A memorial service was held at Temple
Sinai in Washington, D.C.

DR MURRAY BRICKMAN, 65, of
West Bloomfield, died June 2. Dr.
Brickman received both his bachelor and
medical degrees from the University of
Western Ontario in London, Ontario.
He was an obstetrician gynecologist for
35 years practicing at William Beaumont
Hospital and the Detroit Medical
Center. He
was also an assistant clinical professor at
Wayne State University, a fellow of the
American Society of Obstetrics and

member of

Dr. Brickman is survived by his wife of
nearly 39 years, Elaine; son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Dr. Neil and Stacy Brickman
of West Bloomfield; daughters and sons-
in-law, Renee and Ron Jasgur of Walled
Lake, Michele and Howard Rubin of
West Bloomfield; grandchildren, Rachel,
Isabel and Abigal Brickman, Taylor,
Jaclyn and Matthew Jasgur, Danielle and
Mia Rubin; mother-in-law, Ruth
Schneyer. Dr. Brickman was the loving
son of the late Dora Brickman and the
late Nathan Brickman; dear brother of
the late Helen Silver and the late Ruthe
Wolfe; loving son-in-law of the late Jack
Schneyer.
Contributions may be made to a chari-
ty of one's choice. Interment at Clover
Hill Park Cemetery. Arrangements by

LARRY STEPHEN COCKE, 45, of

Farmington Hills, died May 31.
He is survived by his beloved wife,
Judy Cocke; son, Mychal Cocke of
Farmington Hills, Elana Cocke of
Farmington Hills; parents, John and
Frances Cocke of Plymouth; sisters and
brothers-in-law, Deborah and Karl Lewis
of Chicago, Karen and Joe Schiffman of
Livonia.

H. ROY ELLIOTT, 72, former
Detroiter of Berkeley, Calif, died March
31. Dr. Elliott earned a bachelor of arts
degree in economics in 1950 as well as a
master's degree in mathematics in 1953
from Harvard University. He earned his
Ph.D. in economics in 1964 from
University of Chicago.
Dr. Elliott was a professor emeritus of
business and economics at California
State University, Hayward. He was one
of the founding faculty members of the
economics department, where he taught
from 1962 until his retirement in 1987.
He continued to teach part time for an
additional five years.
Dr. Elliott is survived by his wife,
Virginia; sons and daughter-in-law,
Aaron of Pensacola, Fla., and Jeremy and

Laura of Palo Alto, Calif.; sister-in-law,
Evelyn Cowen of Morristown, N.J.;
brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David
and Rosemary Wolock of Royal Oak;
loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He
was the beloved husband of the late
Lillian Wolock Elliott.
Services an interment at Rolling Hills
Memorial Park, Richmond, Calif. A
memorial service is set for June 22 in

DAVID YALE FOGELMAN, 47, of
Southfield, died May 27. He was a laun-
dromat owner.
Mr. Fogelman is survived by his
daughter, Erica Fogelman; mother,
Goldie Fogelman; brother, Dr. Burton
Fogelman; sister-in-law, Shelly Fogelman;
former wife, Marlene Fogelman. He was
the beloved son of the late Max M.
Fogelman; loving brother of the late
Denise Ann Fogelman.
Interment at Machpelah Cemetery.

JEAN GAUSS, 93, of Oak Park, died

May 29.
She is survived by her daughter, Lois
Rae Zemmol of Farmington Hills; sister,
Lena Mitchell of Southfield; grandchil-
dren, Gail Zemmol, Neil and Shari
Zemmol, Jay and Dana Zemmol; great-
grandchildren, Rachel, Julia and Zackary
Zemmol.

MORRIS GIMAN, 90, of West

-
Bloomfield, died June 3. He was born
in Poland and at age 15 was very
active with the Labor Zionists. He
also loved music and played the vio-
lin.
In 1938, he fled on foot to Russian
occupied Poland and later to the
Ukraine. With several other youths,
he was arrested, imprisoned and sen-
tenced to one year of hard labor. At
the sentencing, Mr. Giman said some-
thing the judge took exception to and
the sentence was extended to five
years of hard labor at a Siberian pris-
oner of war camp. He finally managed
an escape.
After the war, he became a member
of the Arbiter Mapai (Working Parry)
was elected president of his displaced
persons camp. The Hagannah smug-
gled Mr. Giman into Italy. Much later
he brought his family to America and
they became American citizens in
1955, settling in Ohio where he
became an orthopedic brace maker.
In 1956, Mr. Giman sold his suc-
cessful convenience store in Cleveland
and headed to Petach Tikvah, Israel;
but the family felt they could not
remain there and so he came back to
the states and settled in Detroit. In
1976, he retired to Florida.
He is survived by his daughter and
son-in-law, Dorothy and Howard
Small of West Bloomfield; son and
daughter-in-law, William and Brenda
Giman of Kendall Park, N.J.; grand-
children, Nicholas and Zachary Small.
He was the beloved former husband
of the late Rose Giman.
Interment at the Temple Israel
Gardens of Beth El Memorial Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be
made to the Israel Emergency Relief
Fund c/o The Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit, 6735 Telegraph

ANNE GOODIS, 91, of Oak Park,

EDVERNA "EDDY" GILBERT, 74, of

Bloomfield Hills, died June 1. She was a
fourth- and fifth-grade teacher in
Detroit.
Mrs. Gilbert is survived by her hus-
band, Al Gilbert; sons and daughters-in-
law, Dr. Martin Gilbert of Los Angeles,
Dean and Amy Gilbert of California;
grandchildren, Jason and Alyse Gilbert;
sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and
Thomas Dworman of Farmington Hills.
Interment at Machpelah Cemetery.
