"For such a new place, service was better
than I expected attentive, well-timed, skillful
and unobtrusive with basks such as clearing
dishes and refilling glasses, though sometimes
the schmooze level was too high."

A favorite feature
at Kruse & Muer At
The Lake is its
curbside carry-out
... People call ahead
with their order ...
and it is brought out to them in their
car when arriving at the restaurant.
Certainly there is the roasted corn
and lobster chowder ... and French
onion soup topped with toasted crou-
tons, melted Swiss and Parmesan
cheeses and a splash of sherry ... Also,
the delicious appetizer or entree of
Maryland lump crabcakes broiled with
roasted red pepper ruie.
Fish eaters love the golden fried
Great Lakes walleye served at Kruse
and Muer At The Lake ... In fact,
walleye in various preparations by
Matt are among the top sellers at Bill
Kruse's newest restaurant.
The genius of Bill Kruse_is an interest-
ing one ... All his restaurants are geared
to satisfy the locale ... but in doing this
he makes certain not to sacrifice the
presence of those items upon which the
Kruse & Muer reputation lies.
Stalwart dishes are always on the
menu. at all of Bill's operations ... and
although he cannot by law use the _
exact same items as are on menus of
the C.E. Muer Corp. ... especially now
that it is owned by Houston-based
Landy Co. ... the Chuck Muer touch
can be felt somewhere along the line
... This is something which Bill
absolutely refuses to deny.
Their names are together ... and the
friendship of Bill Kruse and Chuck
Muer is never forgotten.
THERE ARE 2,200 Kroger stores
in the United States ... and a new
record was probably set in the great
chain when one of its supermarkets
was totally remodeled wall to wall ...
and reopened in just four weeks.
Hardly seems possible with the way
the store at 14 Mile and Farmington
Road in West Bloomfield now looks.
The interior is beyond recognition ...
as much wasted space has been turned
into a super supermarket with 15 aisles
... and many more sectors ... of well
organized merchandise and depart-
ments that veritably bulge out with
their many never-had-before products.
Even the newspaper rack has a new
look ... Now widely arranged in large
oversized plastic, easy-to-see bins at
eye-level.
It is also the only Kroger store in
Michigan presently with bialys ... They are
made by hand at Richard Steinik's Detroit
