HELEN KISSNER, 90, of Ann
Arbor, died April 9. She was a histo-
ry teacher at Southside High School
in Newark, N.J.
Mrs. Kissner is survived by her
husband, Morris Kissner; son and
daughter-in-law, Dr. Paul and Dana
Kissner of Ann Arbor; grandchil-
dren, Sara Jo Kissner and Sol Evan
Kissner; brother and sister-in-law,
Marvin and Gladys Scher of
Maryland. She was the dear sister of
the late Jerome Scher.

MIRIAM LEITMAN, 90, of
Southfield, died April 13. She was
the founder of Adat Shalom nursery
school and co-founder and board
member of the Cerebral Palsy
Association of Michigan.
Mrs. Leitman is survived by her
son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and
Susan Leitman of Bloomfield Hills;
daughter, Cynthia Leitman and her
partner, Vicky Semones; grandchil-
dren, Matthew and Kelly Leitman,
Rebecca and Jeffrey Veidlinger;
great-grandchildren, Joshua and
Natalie Leitman and Naomi
Veidlinger. She was the beloved wife
of the late Rudolf L. Leitman; lov-
ing mother of the late Richard
Leitman.
Interment at Adat Shalom
Memorial Park. Contributions may
be made to the Adat Shalom nursery
school or the Cerebral Palsy
Association of Michigan.

ESTHER MADDIN, 88, of
Southfield, died April 13. She was a
Detroit public school teacher who
graduated from the University of
Michigan 1935. She was also a
member of Congregation Shaarey
Zedek, a past president of the Sinai
Hospital Women's Guild, active in
the Federation's Women's Division,
a life member of Hadassah and
taught English to Russian immi-
grants in Florida.
Mrs. Maddin is survived by her
sons and daughters-in-law, Michael
and Donna Maddin of West
Bloomfield, Richard and Sharon
Maddin of West Bloomfield; daugh-
ter, Rosalyn and Lance Mermell of
Lake Orion; grandchildren, Melissa
and Brian Weisberger, Marc
Maddin, Martin Maddin, Matthew
Maddin, Russell Maddin, Lauren
Maddin, Rachel Mermell, Joshua

Mermell, Bruce Gorman, Amy
Corrnan, Scott Corman; sister and
brother-in-law, Frances and Lloyd
Finsilver. She was the beloved wife
of the late Milton M. Maddin.

died April 10.
She is survived by her daughters

SOFYA MUSHKINA, 94, of Oak
Park, died April 13.
She is survived by her sons and
daughters-in-law, Yuriy and Inna
Mushkin of Oak Park, Mordechai
and Naomi Mushkin of Thornhill,
Ontario, Canada; five grandchil-
dren; 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs.
Mushkina was the beloved wife of
the late Velvel Mushkin.
Contributions may be made to a
charity of one's choice. Interment at
Hebrew Memorial Park. Arrangements
by Hebrew Memorial Chapel.

MARY D. OBST, 55, of Royal
Oak, died April 4. A graduate of
Barnard College, where she majored
in Spanish literature, she obtained
her master's degree in library science
from Wayne State University and
worked for 13 years as a librarian in
the Detroit public library system.
A lifelong civil rights activist, she
was most widely known as Mary
Holmes, the co-author with Kevin
A. Barry of the "Our Life and
Times" column of News t Letters.
