Bus Bombing
Kills Seven
Afula/JTA — A Palestinian suicide
bomber killed seven people and
wounded more than 30 in northern
Israel on Wednesday morning. A
number of Israeli Arabs were among
the dead, Israel Radio reported.
The bombing took place on an
Egged bus near the Israeli Arab town
of Umm el-Fahm, close to Afula. The
bus was ripped in two by the large
quantity of explosives carried by the
bomber.
The Palestinian Authority
denounced the "operation," saying it
opposed attacks on civilians within
Israel proper. Islamic Jihad claimed
responsibility for the blast. In other
violence, an Israeli was wounded in a
shooting attack near the West Bank
city of Nablus.
L.A. Student
Killed In N.Y.
Los Angeles/Jewish Journal — Avner
Abensour, the 26-year-old nephew of
Rabbi Bentzion Kravitz, founder of
Jews for Judaism, was found stabbed
to death Monday night in front of a
Brooklyn grocery store.
Abensour, a Pico-Robertson native
with a wife and 1-year-old son, had
been in New York for the last five
years studying at a Brooklyn kollel.
He was last seen at 8:30 p.m. stag-
gering in a Midwood neighborhood
street before collapsing on a sidewalk.
Abensour was stabbed twice in the
back, and the knife was found a half-
block away.
Police have no motive for the
killing, but said it could have been a
botched robbery attempt after finding
his wallet still on him, or a hate
crime.
was such a sweet boy, very
gentle" said Rabbi Kravitz, who noti-
fied the family of Abensoues death.
"That was the hardest thing I've ever
had to do in my life."
Abensour's family will accompany
his body for burial in Israel.
