"The new album was fun to make,"
says Schaefer, who had a bar mitzvah,
is married to a teacher and spends
much off-tour time with his three
sons. "It's a very upbeat album. We

some outside instrumentation with

cut loose a little bit."
The title track of Quick, written
by Schaefer, is a takeoff on a televi-

"Number Six Driver," another

"Our group can be described as
acoustic-pop or folk-rock, but that
doesn't encompass all that we do," says
Schaefer, who has performed around
Michigan. "We're high-energy, and
there's usually humor."

voice thrown in.
Albana, the Jewish half of the
duo, is influenced by various Jewish
social and cultural connections, or
as he puts it, "the humor of growing
up Jewish."
The requisite bar mitzvah aside,
Ming's Jewish connection is not reli-
gious. But the musicians' three discs
of DJ battle breaks are titled B-Boy
Barmitzvah Braxes, and the new
album opens with their Israeli
friend Omray (who appears later in
the album on "Captain Omray's
Mumble Box") introducing the
group with a radio promo in
Hebrew, titled "Shalom."

eschewed the concert circuit to
spend more time in the studio.
They formed Madhattan
Studios, and lend their produc-
tion talents to efforts by Coolio,
Brandy and Sean "Puffy"
Combs, among others.
Ming's courses in audio engineer-
ing at the University of Miami and
FS's experience as a rap artist pro-
ducing hip-hop at 16, coupled with
his training in jazz piano at the
Brooklyn Conservatory, have comple-
mented each other nicely.
With a world tour being planned,
and a growing audience and influ-
ence, Ming and FS's junkyard is a
busy place.
