Fisher Foundation
Grants Announced
The Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit's Max M.
Fisher Jewish Community
Foundation will award
$113,000 in grants to six Jewish
community organizations for
social service, cultural and edu-
cational programs.
The grants were approved on
Aug. 22 at a combined United
Jewish Foundation and
Federation board meeting.
The Fisher Foundation was
established in 1964 to fund the
startup period of innovative and
creative projects that enhance
the quality of life for members
of the community. While
Federation's Annual Campaign
meets essential, ongoing budg-
etary needs, the Fisher
Foundation provides resources
for demonstration grants.
Fisher Foundation grants are
approved twice a year at
January and June meetings.
Funding comes from the annu-
al grant allocated to Federation
from the United Jewish
Foundation, which develops the
community's financial
resources.
The six programs to receive
the latest Fisher Foundation
grants are:
• Adat Shalom Synagogue:
$22,000 for nursery and
kindergarten Hebrew-immer-
sion program.
• Yeshiva Beth Yehudah:
$23,000 for Ma'alot program.
• Federation's Alliance for
Jewish Education: $20,000 for
Cyber Camp.
• Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit
Synagogue-Federation Relations
Committee: $8,500 for bar-bat
mitzvah tzedakah (righteous
acts) outreach program.
• Yad Ezra: $14,500 for
kosher breakfast and lunch
assistance programs for Jewish
day school students.
• Kollel Torah Mitzion:
$25,000 for program that
brings modern Orthodox cou-
ples from Israel to serve as
teachers and mentors in the
community.
Dan Greenberg, chairman of
the Fisher Foundation, said
these awards will enrich the
Jewish community at large, not
just the organizations that
receive the financial assistance.
"The Fisher Foundation is
pleased and proud to help facil-
itate the creation of new and
innovative programming that
enhances our Jewish communal
life," he said. "The newly
approved programs, like Cyber
Camp, enrich the lives of the
student participants and will
also benefit their home congre-
gations."
Organizations interested in
applying for a Fisher
Foundation Grant may obtain
letter of intent forms and
guidelines from the
Federation planning depart-
ment. For information, call
Marion Freedman at
Federation, (248) 203-1467.
