got, except for a
few American dish-
es ... The restau-
rant was very infor-
mal and a relaxed
atmosphere pre-
vailed midst the
stucco walls.
THE "OLD
TIMER" among Greektown's restau-
rants on Monroe, Grecian Gardens
had waiters in tuxes and shots in
coffee cups to memorialize the old
days ... Greek Easter was a special
event at Grecian Gardens ... with
traditional eggs appearing as accom-
paniments to the special house lamb
chops, Greek vegetables, fresh baby
squid and broiled sea bass ... The
luncheon menu was virtually the
same as the dinner version ... except
that the prices were a few lepta
lower.
RENAISSANCE CENTER'S
Chinese entry in the Downtown
eatery sweepstakes, Hoi King Lau,
presented the longest dinner menu in
town ... 154 items ... Chinese galore
and American favorites like veal pic-
cante, broiled whitefish mousselline,
broiled chicken, crepes Benedict and
strawberry omelet.
Hoi King Lau was huge ... One
room overlooked the river, another,
inside, had comfortable booths ...
Both were handsomely decorated in
classic Chinese motifs with
Polynesian accents.

madcap, nostalgic-nautical warehouse
theme ... Folks used to enjoy the
fresh shellfish and the view of the
Detroit River and Renaissance

SURPRISINGLY TRANQUIL
and well-decorated, Xochimilco,
which is still on Bagley, just north of
Vernor, has always been a strong con-

honors in the offering of authentic
"Border" food.
Mexican and Gringo regulars have
been offered some very special

WHEN IT WAS ON East
L'fayette, the Sheik restaurant was
beloved by Detroiters who appreciat-
