Japanese food ... It is an experience
not to be missed ... Sapporo may not
be the fanciest ... but it is authentically
good ... and very clean ... Truly a din-
ing adventure of joy.
WITH THE CLOSING of
Ristorante Di Modesta on Northwestern
between 12 Mile and Inkster, comes
news that it will again be an upscale
Italian restaurant ... owned by the Del
Signore family of Fonte de Amore on
Plymouth in Livonia ... The former
Ristorante Di Modesta will be given a
name other than Fonte de Amore, says
Luciano Del Signore ... Scheduled open-
ing is in September.
SOME OF THE best dishes in
many restaurants are those concocted
by mistake ... In the case of Giorgio's
Counterside Diner in Oak Park,
whose owners, George and Bill
Golematis will open another location
with the soon-to-come 70-seating
Giorgio's Gourmet Diner in West
Bloomfield's Sugar Tree, it wasn't just
the mixture ... but an entire entree.
George couldn't buy any whitefish for
his little Oak Park restaurant to prepare
for a Jewish holiday ... so opted to serve
something that looked like it from the
outside ... He put Ruby Red Trout on
the menu ... cooked the same way as
their whitefish.
Result is that the Ruby Red Trout,
which looks like whitefish on the out-
side ... and salmon on the inside ... is a
superb taste treat ... and has become one
of Giorgio's best sellers.
