Pontiac is gone as Pike Street
Restaurant closes its doors in the reg-
istered historic building that was orig-
inally the house of Michigan Bell
Telephone ... Pike Street was opened
in 1984 by Jim Fitzpatrick, who is
hoping to stay in the restaurant busi-
ness with a much smaller and inti-
mate operation than his former 185-
seater.
NEVER LET IT BE said that Paul
Kohn didn't give it a huge attempt with
his La Difference kosher restaurant that
closed last week ... He tried but the loss-
es became greater than Paul's hopes for
the upscale kosher restaurant he opened
on Dec. 22 of 1998.

Schwartz goes to meet Sol, his new son-
in-law to be.
He says to Sol, who is very religious,
"So nu, tell me Sol my boy, what do you
do?" ... "I study the Torah," he replies.
"But Sol, you are going to marry my
daughter. How are you going to feed
and house her?"
"No problem," says Sol. "I study
Torah and it says God will provide."
"But you will have children. How will
you educate them?" Asks Mr. Schwartz.
"No problem," says Sol. "I study
Torah and it says God will provide."
Mr. Schwartz goes home and Mrs.
Schwartz, his wife, anxiously asks what
Sol is like.
"Well," says Mr. Schwartz, "he's a
lovely boy. I only just met him and he
already thinks I'm God." ❑
