THIS YEAR'S
Sixth Annual
Michigan Culinary
Food and Wine
Extravaganza was
like one big party...
at the Andiamo
Italia Banquet Hall
in Warren.
Almost 25 restaurants participated
in the great event that annually raises
funds to send Michigan's team to the
Culinary Olympics held every four
years in Germany ... plus providing
scholarships for culinary students
here.
The event is held each year at Mac
& Ray's in Harrison Township ... But
because the Lake St. Clair dining spot
is being renovated to make it into a
smaller restaurant and larger banquet
facility ... the event was held at Joe
Vicari's Andiamo Italia banquet cen-
ter.
Around 600 people ate, drank, wore
Mardi Gras beads, put on masks, bid
on open and silent auctions, won raf-
fle prizes and danced to the fine
rhythms of Simone Vitale and his big
band sound.
Cafe Cortina was selected by a
panel of judges for best overall honors
at the MCFW affair ... Mon Jin Lau,
last year's winner, was second and
Golden Mushroom third.
THIS SUNDAY, MARCH 11
be the start of a weekly brunch
many folks have been looking for ...
one with fresh fish.
It'll be by Tom's Oyster Bar,
Franklin Road at Northwestern Hwy.
in Southfield ... Champagne Brunch
from 11 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. ... with
omelet station, breakfast choices, carv-
ing station, hot entrees, seafood sta-
tion, fresh fish, dessert station, cham-
pagne, etc ... Adults, $21.95; seniors,
$18.95; children 12 and under, $9.95.
TO HONOR Detroit's 300th
birthday, Wesley Pikula, director of
operations at Buddy's Pizza, and staff
members have created a "Detroiter
Pizza" ... a plain concoction of cheese,
pepperoni, tomato basil sauce and a
sprinkling of Parmesan cheese.
Part of the proceeds from each
order through May 31 at all nine
Buddy's locations will be given to the
Ronald McDonald House of Detroit
and Boys Hope Girls Hope of
Detroit.
The pizza is part of Buddy's "Got
• Pizza? Give Dough!" campaign to
raise funds for local children's chari-
ties.
IT'S NEITHER a carryout nor a
drive-in ... Something new ... but
