ing better than eating at a clean
restaurant ... This has to come first ...
above everything else in a dining hap-
pening.
Before Joe and Helma Bernardi
opened up at the site of the former
Town Pump in Walled Lake, it was
badly in need of remodeling ... When
they got done altering the place, gone
were the dinginess and bare walls ...
Instead came the ultra-clean and
bright Pepino's with paneling and
more windows.
Pepino's is open only for dinner ...
Monday-Thursday, 5-10 p.m. ...
Friday and Saturday, 5-11 p.m. ...
Reservations are accepted for six or
more people only, and just up to 7
p.m. seating.
When Helma and Joe recently came
here from Florida, where they spend a
couple of months on and off, the look
of great pride marked their faces ... at
the wonderful job being done by
daughters Kathy and Carol, and
daughter-in-law Judy ... in so effi-
ciently and gracefully caring for cus-
tomers ... This has always been a
stickler attitude of Helma and Joe ...
to make sure their customers always
have a satisfying visit.
You look at the trays carried by the
fine waitpersons ... filled with orders
for other tables and wonder why you
didn't also order this or that ...
Everything looks so good.
But when your order comes, you
forget about that wonderment and
enjoy dinner with much lusty con-
tentment.
Pepino's kitchen, headed by Keith
Couch, chef since its opening, knows
no boundaries ... Whether it be the
big favorite of pan-fried rainbow trout
... or the petite frog legs, lamb chops,
whitefish, soft-shelled crabs, pasta,
veal, steaks, homemade chicken pot-
pie, sauteed lake perch, excellent pick-
erel, wonderful prime rib, short ribs,
baby back ribs, swordfish, salmon,
charbroiled chicken breast, butterfly
shrimp, etc. ... the bevy of superb din-
ners is an endless stream of goodness.
It is considered a neighborhood
restaurant, but people come from
everywhere ... many miles away ... to
find out for themselves what so many
people are talking about.
When a restaurant like Pepino's is
received with such open arms ... and
given so many high accolades ... being
a credit to the dining industry is with-
out doubt.
Complete dining satisfaction is the
highest mark of distinction a cus-
tomer can give a restaurant ... Pepino's
gets this honor hands down.
