helped out weekly at Critter
Connection, an adoption agency for
abused and unwanted dogs.

Eric Jacob Greenberg will be called
to the Torah as a
bar mitzvah on
Saturday, Sept. 16,
at Adat Shalom
Synagogue. Eric is
the son of Dr.
Lawrence and
Robin Greenberg
and the brother of
Jacob, Rachel and
Libby Greenberg.
Proud grandparents are Dr. Robert
and Reva Moss and Violet
Greenberg. Eric is also the grandson
of the late Dr. Ralph A. Greenberg.
Eric is an eighth-grade honor
student at,-Vrchard Lake Middle
School in West Bloomfield. As part
of his 13 mitzvot program, Eric vol-
unteered his time to the Jewish
Association for Residential Care car-
nival. He has been active in his syn-
agogue youth group and was hon-
ored last spring for his participa-
tion.
Eric plans to honor the memory
of his late grandfather with the pur-
chase of a memorial plaque to be
placed in the synagogue.
Nicholas Scott Liebowitz was called
to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on
Saturday, Sept. 2, at
Adat Shalom
Synagogue. He is
the son of Bruce
and Vicki Leibowitz
of Farmington Hills
and brother of
Chelsea and Jeffrey.
Nick's proud
grandparents are Israel
and Lillian Liebowitz of Boca Raton,
Fla., and Lee Woods of Coloma, Mich.;
proud great-grandmother is Sarah
Tinker of Hartford, Mich.
Nick is an eighth-grader at O.E.
Dunckel Middle School in
Farmington Hills. He enjoys play-
ing baseball and going snowboard-
ing, listening to music and going to
the movies.
Melissa Maxon will become a bat
mitzvah on Saturday, Sept. 16, dur-
ing services at
Temple Israel. She
is the daughter of
Ilona and Kenneth
Maxon and sister of
Ashley and
Gregory. Excited
grandparents are
Eleonore and Erich
Kannewischer and
Marilyn and Murray Maxon.
A student at Abbott Middle
School in West Bloomfield, Melissa
enjoys tennis, sports, music and
travel. Among her mitzvah projects,
she volunteered at Yad Ezra and for
Meals on Wheels and donated to
the American Cancer Society.
Gabriel Jordan Narrett, an eighth-
grader at Walled Lake Middle
School, will
become a bar mitz-
vah on Saturday,
Sept. 16, at the
Birmingham
Temple. His proud
mother is Conne
Hollander; his
grandmother is
Bobby Hollander.
Gabe is a four-time all-star baseball
player. In addition to playing travel
baseball, he worked in his league as
an umpire and hopes to referee soccer
in the fall. He enjoys all sports and is
an honor roll student.
In preparation for his bar mitz-
vah, Gabe attended adult services
and volunteered at the temple in
several capacities, by helping at the
annual art show, staffing some
activities at the past Chanuka party
and Purim carnival and hauling
bark for the temple's new playscape.
Gabe also volurl,eered at the con-
cession stand at the Pontiac
Silverdome to help raise money for
the temple.
Gabe focused his bar mitzvah
research on the prophet Isaiah. He
became interested in this ancient
figure as a hero in Jewish civiliza-
tion who believed in good, hope
and fairness.
Ruth Eve Neuman will be called to
the Torah as a bat mitzvah on
Saturday, Sept. 16, at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek B'nai Israel. She is
the daughter of Gila and Scott
Neuman of West Bloomfield and
sister of Adi. Ruth's proud grandfa-
ther is Ben Neuman. She is also the
