was lined with red
velvet, plush win-
dow draperies, beau-
tiful carpeting and
an antique silver
wine bucket ... The
"veddy” British vehi-
cle accommodated
five passengers (there
were two Britannic jump seats in the
rear section.)
THE $1 MINIMUM at the Clock
Restaurant on Telegraph between 9 and
10 Mile in Southfield, was not just to
keep the youngsters out ... It pertained
to everybody said the snobby waitress.
LOOKING CLOSELY at photo-
graphs on the walls, customers might
have seen the picture of theirs or
somebody else's great-grandmother ...
That's because Nan and Joe Bird
filled the walls with old-time pictures
of yesteryears at their Crabbie Joe's
on Michigan in Dearborn .. Also
high-button shoes, old refurbished
wooden floors and 70 Tiffany lamps

Meyer's Seafood was a dozen or more
fresh fish daily ... but you could also
get one of the best hamburgers
around.
CHANNEL 2'S Mike Douglas
Show had oodles of folks jamming
the lounge at Town & Country Club
in Southfield ... It was to watch the
TV, eat hors d'oeuvres ... and see
T&C General Manager Dave Fekay
do his culinary stuff assisted by Mike
Douglas, Neil Sedaka and Robert
Goulet ... Dave went on to write The
Sensuous Kitchen ... and today is cor-
porate chef for an Italian food manu-
facturing firm.
REMEMBERING WHEN ... Judy
and In, Mendelson opened their place
called Signatures at the Sugar Tree Plaza
on Orchard Lake Road in West
Bloomfield ... and sold personalized
garbage cans ... Rabbi Dannel Schwartz
came to a home and told folks a bedtime
story ... It was one of the things auc-
tioned off at the annual Temple Beth El
Auction by its Married Group,
Brotherhood and Sisterhood. (Rabbi
Schwartz is now at Temple Shir Shalom.)
People were telling those Martian
stories ... Like the one who ambled
into a bar and cornered the gaily lit-
up jukebox ... Giving it the once-over
he said, "What's a doll like you doing
Or about the
in a joint like this?"
two gents from outer space who
zoomed into New York for a night on
the town ... Sidling up to a fire
hydrant one asked, "Where is your
leader?" ... His buddy remarked,
