He used to love the one about a
young friend in New York who was
an ardent devotee of bebop music ...
The wilder and more discordant it
waxed, the better he liked it, said
Bobby ... The lad was walking his
girlfriend home very late one night
when a garbage van pulled up ahead
and the crew began banging and rat-
ding cans of refuse about the side-
walk in that copyrighted manner best
calculated to wake everybody on the
block ... At the height of the racket,
the bebop devotee clasped his girl's
hand and murmured reverently,
"Listen, darling! Our song!"
HUGO'S AT the Park-Shelton in
Detroit had three plus factors ... good
food, good service and indoor garage

Cantonese food at Chung's was
superbly prepared in delectable fash-
ion that made for continuous delight
... The egg rolls were exceptional at
Chung's ... It made its own casing
from a recipe that was a generation-
to-generation secret and delicious
beyond description ... Chung's in
Detroit is at the same location today.
HE CALLED himself director of
dining and entertainment at the Hotel
Pontchartrain when Chuck Muer
added another curiosity to the Detroit
street scene ... The innovator of the
"Ponrch" double-decker bus, Chuck
offered free livery service, via London
cab, to patrons of the hotel's
Mediterranean restaurant ... Chuck
purchased a British Austin, a three-door
model ... two back doors and a front
door on the driver's side ... The interior
