Guests entered to see table numbers
on cards attached to balloons hanging
from the foyer ceiling ... a bevy of
passed and stationary hors d'oeuvres,
with people asking where Shirley was,
and a friend answering, "She's proba-
bly in the kitchen cooking."
At his table, a look-alike Marilyn
Monroe sang, "Happy Birthday" a la
John F. Kennedy, to "Big Eddie"
while the candles flickered on a large
three-tiered cake ... blown out by
Eddie, Shirley and their family.

birthday party at the Grecian Gardens
in Greektown, where a couple of
buses brought the attendees ... and

make it the "Catskills of the
Midwest."
The many big national name bands
that came to South Haven in those
days never played at any of the resorts
because the groups were too large,
many times over 20 pieces, says
Shirley, whose parents, Minnie and
Morris Baron, owned Baron's ... The
big bands all came to the North Shore
Pavilion, she says.
