Whether he is rambling through
some of Louis Prima's charts or cook-
ing up some of his own arrange-

act like the one Butera puts on.
The original Platters were one of
the top vocal groups of the 1950s,
selling 52 million records and being
among the first doo-wop groups
inducted into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame in Cleveland in 1990.
Sonny Turner, who joined the
Platters in 1963, is still with them.
MAIL DEPT. ... "Thanks for
dusting off my photo with the late
great entertainers, Sammy Davis Jr.
and Billy Daniels. Indeed, the Scotch
`n Sirloin days bring back a lot of
fond memories. I am blessed to have
your support.
"I have just signed a CD/DVD
deal with Panda Digital out of Los
Angeles. The president of Panda is
Jewish. I am blessed to have many
supportive Jewish people in both my
professional as well as personal life."

"I read your article with great
interest, about the Scotch 'n Sirloin,
and Sammy Davis Jr., there with
Billy Daniels. I was manager then of
the Scotch 'n Sirloin, and had gone
with my wife, Mert, to see (Sammy)
in Golden Boy at the Fisher Theatre.
Backstage, he told me that he wanted
to come to the Scotch 'n Sirloin that
evening, but was taping a commer-
cial for Bobby Kennedy, running for
senator in New . York. Mert and I
drove him to Motown Recordings on
Grand Boulevard, and we then went
to the Scotch 'n Sirloin, getting there
after 2 a.m.
"Because of the crowd waiting to
see him, I asked if he wanted to go
in through the back door. Sammy
looked at me and said, "I don't go in
back doors anymore.'
"Billy Daniels and the rest of the
cast came in cars supplied by the
Chrysler Corporation."
