The
New Foundation
To Help Women
Programs and organizations that
enhance the lives of women will benefit
from the newly created Jewish Women's
Foundation of Metropolitan Detroit.
Groups that focus on medical
research, the arts, religious and secular
activities and education for women of all

and $100,000 contributions to an
endowment fund dedicated to the foun-

Foundation supported the creation of
the Jewish Women's Foundation and
will hold its assets.
Endowers of the foundation will
comprise its board of trustees, which
will make grants from the interest and
investment growth of the fund.
The foundation is modeled after sim-
ilar programs in Chicago and New York
City.

dation. The community is invited to its

Empty Bowls
Fund-Raiser
Congregation Shir Tikvah will host an
Empty Bowls Dinner in honor of World
Hunger Day 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15.
The premise is to have artists, stu-
dents and adults and the "artistically
challenged" make hand-made bowls,
which are then donated to a simple meal
event similar to that provided by a soup
kitchen. The participants take home the
empty bowl as a reminder of people liv-
ing in hunger.
The bowls are purchased by partici-
pants at $10 per bowl or $25 per family
and used during dinner for soups, sal-
ads, breads and desserts prepared by
members of the congregation.
Congregation Shir Tikvah is at 3900
Northfield Parkway, south of Wattles
between Crooks and Coolidge in Troy.
For information, call Michael Phillips,
(248) 723-9256.
