Empty Bowls Fund-Raiser Congregation Shir Tikvah will host an Empty Bowls Dinner in honor of World Hunger Day 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15. The premise is to have artists, stu- dents and adults and the "artistically challenged" make hand-made bowls, which are then donated to a simple meal event similar to that provided by a soup kitchen. The participants take home the empty bowl as a reminder of people liv- ing in hunger. The bowls are purchased by partici- pants at $10 per bowl or $25 per family and used during dinner for soups, sal- ads, breads and desserts prepared by members of the congregation. Congregation Shir Tikvah is at 3900 Northfield Parkway, south of Wattles between Crooks and Coolidge in Troy.
