Organization of America, A profes-
sional economist, Klein serves as
special consultant to the UCLA
School of Public Health and to the
Linus Pauling Institute of Science
and Medicine. He served as an econ-
omist in the Nixon, Ford and Carter
administrations and has taught at
Temple University in Philadelphia.
A writer and speaker, Klein is an
advocate for Israel. He will speak
here about Israeli Prime Minister
Ehud Barak, his administration and
its efforts to obtain a genuine peace
in the Middle East. The speech is
open to the public at no charge.

Israel Forum

Amid rising anti-Semitic violence
and hate on the Internet, the
Michigan Israel Democratic Caucus
will revisit Israel's importance to the
U.S. in a symposium featuring
Israeli Deputy Consul General
David Roet.
The symposium, moderated by
Macomb County Prosecutor Carl
Marlinga, will be held from 1-3 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 10, at the University of
Michigan in Ann Arbor. The meet-
ing place is the Pendleton Room in
the Michigan Union, 530 S. State.
Roet will discuss U.S./Israel rela-
tions, Israeli elections and the
prospect for Mideast peace, among
other issues.
Other speakers will include
Michigan Democratic Party Chair
Mark Brewer, discussing the 2000
elections and the importance of
being involved politically, and U.S.
Rep. Lynn Rivers of Ann Arbor, who
will discuss U.S./Israel relations
from a congressional perspective.
Formed last year by Daniel
Cherrin and Steven Steinhardt, the
Michigan Israel Democratic Caucus
encourages Jewish community mem-
bers and others who support Israel to
become involved in the political
process. The group also strives ro sen-
sitize the Michigan Democratic Parry
to the concerns and customs of Jews.
