Yeshivat Akiva will host a Torah proces-
sion to mark the opening of its new
home in the former Cong. Beth Achim
building on Monday, Sept. 6.
The Torah procession begins at 12:45
p.m. at the Agency for Jewish Education
building at 21550 W 12 Mile Road,
east of Lahser, and heads to Akiva,
21100 W 12 Mile. Music and dancing
in the new building will follow.
The free festivities, open to the pub-
lic, then continue unitil 3:30 p.m. with
children's activities and refreshments and
the grand opening of the newly con-
structed Akiva playground.
Last year, the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit purchased the for-
mer synagogue building for Akiva with
the proviso that the school would raise
the money needed to renovate and
maintain it.
