T

here are people who
enrich others by their
overt gifts and there are
others
who enrich by
their very being.
Reva did both."
These are the
words that Rabbi
Irwin Groner of
Congregation
Shaarey Zedek
used to describe
Reva Taubman
Stocker at her
funeral Aug. 19 at
Ira Kaufman
Chapel. Mrs.
Stocker, 71, of
Bloomfield Hills
died of cancer on
Aug. 17.
Reva Stocker
She had a pro-
found love of life,"
said the rabbi. "She was a healer,
she was a nurturer and she
imparted beauty to whatever she
touched."
Mrs. Stocker was an active and
generous supporter of the Detroit
Jewish community. She served for
14 years on the board of directors
of the Jewish Home for Aged.
She was a strong advocate and
benefactor of the Jewish Family
Service's Windows program, one
of the few programs in the coun-
try that works with every member
of the family in preventing abuse
and intervening with abused fami-
lies.
She endowed the Reva Stocker
Educational Lecture Series to pro-
mote healthy families. In 1997,
with the help of David and
Doreen Hermelin, she brought
Tipper Gore, the wife of Vice
President Al Gore, to speak at
Shaarey Zedek, at an event co-
hosted by JFS and the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit.
Mrs. Stocker was a board mem-
ber and volunteer for the Women's
Division of the Jewish Federation
for 30 years and was a co-chair of
the division's advanced gifts sec-
tion. She was a life member of
Hadassah.

AT THE VINEYARDS

A graduate of the University of
Michigan, Mrs. Stocker was a
board member of Friends of
Modern Art at the Detroit
Institute of Arts and an avid sup-
porter for more than 20 years.
Richard A.
Manoogian,
president of
the DIA board
of directors,
said, "Reva was
an inspiration
to collectors,
enthusiastically
supported a
variety of exhi-
bitions and art
acquisitions,
and lent her
creativity to
numerous pro-
jects in sup-
port of the
museum. She
will be missed
greatly.
Rabbi Groner said that Mrs.
Stocker was gifted in the art of
friendship. "Reva was an artist in
living. It takes talent to nurture
relationships and to provide them
with meaning, beauty and depth.
Reva had that talent."
Rabbi Groner officiated at Mrs.
Stocker's wedding to Dr. Lawrence
Stocker. "Reva and Larry were
totally devoted, one to the other,"
he said. "They would have been
married 20 years this summer."
Mrs. Stocker is survived by her
husband, Dr. Lawrence Stocker;
sons and daughter-in-law Robert
Taubman of Bloomfield Hills and
fiancee Julie Reyes, William and
Ellen Taubman of Birmingham
and Richard Stocker of Costa
Rica; daughter and son-in-law
Gayle and Michael Kalisman of
New York; mother Edith
Kolodney of Boynton Beach, Fla.;
grandchildren Jason and Philip
Kalisman, Alexander, Oliver and
Abigail Taubman, Corina and
Santiago Stocker and sister and
brother-in-law Thelma and
Donald Kaplan of Florida.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be
made to the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit. 7
