Reva did both." These are the words that Rabbi Irwin Groner of Congregation Shaarey Zedek used to describe Reva Taubman Stocker at her funeral Aug. 19 at Ira Kaufman Chapel. Mrs. Stocker, 71, of Bloomfield Hills died of cancer on Aug. 17. Reva Stocker She had a pro- found love of life," said the rabbi. "She was a healer, she was a nurturer and she imparted beauty to whatever she touched." Mrs. Stocker was an active and generous supporter of the Detroit Jewish community. She served for 14 years on the board of directors of the Jewish Home for Aged. She was a strong advocate and benefactor of the Jewish Family Service's Windows program, one of the few programs in the coun- try that works with every member of the family in preventing abuse and intervening with abused fami- lies. She endowed the Reva Stocker Educational Lecture Series to pro- mote healthy families. In 1997, with the help of David and Doreen Hermelin, she brought Tipper Gore, the wife of Vice President Al Gore, to speak at Shaarey Zedek, at an event co- hosted by JFS and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. Mrs. Stocker was a board mem- ber and volunteer for the Women's Division of the Jewish Federation for 30 years and was a co-chair of the division's advanced gifts sec- tion. She was a life member of Hadassah. Richard A. Manoogian, president of the DIA board of directors, said, "Reva was an inspiration to collectors, enthusiastically supported a variety of exhi- bitions and art acquisitions, and lent her creativity to numerous pro- jects in sup- port of the museum. She will be missed greatly. Rabbi Groner said that Mrs. Stocker was gifted in the art of friendship. "Reva was an artist in living. It takes talent to nurture relationships and to provide them with meaning, beauty and depth. Reva had that talent." Rabbi Groner officiated at Mrs. Stocker's wedding to Dr. Lawrence Stocker. "Reva and Larry were totally devoted, one to the other," he said. "They would have been married 20 years this summer." Mrs. Stocker is survived by her husband, Dr. Lawrence Stocker; sons and daughter-in-law Robert Taubman of Bloomfield Hills and fiancee Julie Reyes, William and Ellen Taubman of Birmingham and Richard Stocker of Costa Rica; daughter and son-in-law Gayle and Michael Kalisman of New York; mother Edith Kolodney of Boynton Beach, Fla.; grandchildren Jason and Philip Kalisman, Alexander, Oliver and Abigail Taubman, Corina and Santiago Stocker and sister and brother-in-law Thelma and Donald Kaplan of Florida. Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery.
