Holiday
Hospitality

In an effort to help out-of-town
Jewish medical students and doctors
celebrate the High Holidays, the
Maimonides Society for Jewish
physicians will sponsor its Holiday
Hospitality Network with Pro-
Detroit. Young doctors and medical
students will be invited into the
homes of local Jewish physicians to
celebrate Rosh HaShana, erev Yom
Kippur and break-the-fast.
Sponsored by the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's
Community Outreach and
Education Department, the
Maimonides Society seeks to
strengthen bonds with the Jewish
community and Israel through edu-
cational, social and charitable activi-
ties.
The Pro-Detroit program gives
young adults age 22-35 a connection
to the local social, cultural and
employment scene. Its mission is to
make metro Detroit a desirable
option.
Reservation deadline is Sept. 1.

ELUL - A TIME TO PREPARE

During these four weeks preceding
Rosh Hashanah, we are called upon
to examine our lives and prepare our
hearts for the Days of Awe. In this
spirit, Eilu v' Eilu, the adult Jewish
learning project of the Detroit
Conservative movement, presents

"ELUL A TIME TO PREPARE,"

-

a study series on themes of
the season, featuring some of
our community's most dynamic
Jewish educators.

Shalom Detroit
Holiday Plans

Shalom Detroit, a program of the
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit, will offer High Holiday
tickets to most local congregations
for newcomers. Through the
Women's Campaign and Education
Department, Shalom Detroit serves
as a welcoming committee to indi-
viduals, couples and families new to
the Detroit Jewish community.
Personal greeters provide new res-
idents with advice on area schools,
synagogues, shopping and childcare.
Programs and events are held
throughout the year to introduce
newcomers to the area.
Shalom Detroit volunteers deliver
a welcome packet of information
and discount coupons to a newcom-
er's doorstep. Included is a guide to
_) Jewish Detroit, a complimentary
four-week subscription to the Jewish
News and a coupon for a trial mem-
bership to the Jewish Community
Center.
For information, call Shalom
Detroit, (248) 642-4260.
